As a follower of Christ (ironically, that’s what my first name means) I understand that being a Christian can sometimes present challenges in a world that may not always align with the teachings and values of Jesus.
Paul reminded us of this in Ephesians 6:10-12-
"Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms."
However, it's important to remember that these challenges can also provide opportunities for personal growth, strength, and a deeper connection with our Mighty God.
In a world that often prioritizes self-interest, materialism, and instant gratification, it can be challenging to live out the selfless and sacrificial love exemplified by Jesus.
As a Christ follower, we strive to embody his teachings of compassion, forgiveness, and humility, even when faced with hostility or misunderstanding. This can sometimes lead to feelings of isolation or being at odds with societal norms, and making it difficult to navigate our faith in a world that may not always understand or support our beliefs.
As Romans 15:13 reminds us, "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit."
Despite the challenges, being a Christ follower offers all hope, purpose, and a profound connection with something greater than ourselves. He encourages us to seek justice, love unconditionally, and bring light into darkness.
And I am reminded that I don't do this alone, None of us do. Relying on the power of the Holy Spirit and trusting in God's promises, we can find strength, joy, and peace even in the face of adversity, which ultimately inspires others to do the same as we apply His truths to we every day.
You see, we are the examples of Jesus. How we live our lives and how we battle tells of what we believe to be true. By our weakness, God shines His strength.
So how do we find that strength to persevere through the darkness? When things seem so dark and sometimes hopeless?
Friend, spend the time in Gods truth, everyday. Go to His throne, everyday. And surround yourself with a community that reminds you of His strength, everyday.
There is Light in the Dark, and it's JESUS.
