Scripture Applied
Do not merely listen to the Word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the Word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.
James 1:22-24
The Bible is not just a book, or any book. It is The Book. Our Bibles are living and breathing words from our God, and applying Scripture allows those words to reside in us. As we apply Scripture to any situation in our lives, we apply truth to it.
First, we must always approach Scripture with the lenses of wanting to understand God Himself – His heart. When we begin to understand God’s heart, we will understand how our hearts should and could be aligned with His. Second, we are able to praise God through Scripture. As we begin to apply truth in our lives and to the situations we face, we can approach God with a thankful and grateful heart.
What about our enemy? We know Satan doesn't take a break. He never sleeps. He just waits for another opportunity to deceive us. So, how do we fight him? We know that fighting him with Scripture is the way, as Jesus demonstrated that during His time on earth.
Scripture also tells us the truth of who we are: we are who God says we are. As we apply this truth, we can stand firm in it. Paul wrote, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
Applying Scripture doesn't have to be difficult if we understand the power behind it. We must invest in God’s powerful and effective Word in our hearts and minds. Today, I encourage you to let God’s power wash over you as you allow Scripture to live in you. Begin by writing down verses that speak to you as you read your Bible daily. Write them down on an index card or in your journal. Speak those words out loud daily, and memorize them. Memorizing Scripture allows us to remember truth as the Holy Spirit drives our daily lives.

2 Timothy 3:16-17
For the Word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
