Then Sings My Soul

~By: Jeanne Litke~

"I will praise God's name in song and glorify Him with thanksgiving." Psalm 69:30

I have been reading the Bible for over a decade now. One of my favorite ones that I own is a perpetual reading Bible. Starting in Genesis, the calendar year begins, and if you follow through each day, you will have read the entire Bible in one year. It amazes me how God’s Word speaks to me more and more each time I read and reread it. It’s a beautiful love story of God’s unending mercy and grace.

I also love to listen to Christian music. Traveling life this side of heaven can get weary frequently, and I need as much encouragement as possible to keep on fighting the good fight. There is nothing like hearing the words to my favorite songs blasting through the stereo when my soul needs to hear them.

Did you know that songs are also in the Bible? Merriam-Webster defines ‘psalm’ as: “a sacred song or poem used in worship; especially: one of the biblical hymns collected in the Book of Psalms.” Some of the most encouraging words I’ve read are found in the Book of Psalms. It is filled with the songs and prayers offered to God by the nation of Israel, and their expressions of praise, faith, sorrow, and frustration cover the range of human emotions. Some of the Psalms dwell on the treasure of wisdom and God's Word. Others reveal the troubled heart of a mourner. Still others explode with praise to God and invite others to join in song. This diversity is unified by one element: they are centered upon the one and only living God. This Creator God is King of all the earth and a refuge to all who trust in Him.

I encourage you to lean into God’s wonderful love that He speaks to you through His Word. Let it consume you like a fire and feed your soul like no other song can. May you always glean something beautiful.
