Love God, Love People

~By: Silvana Place~

“Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?” Jesus replied, “‘You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.” Matthew 22:36-40

This verse teaches us the importance of loving God and loving people. When we love, reach, and serve people, we are actually tangibly expressing our love for God. By obeying the second commandment we are fulfilling the first. Jesus is saying both are equally important. You can’t claim an allegiance to Jesus and hate people. Our love for others is a reflection of our love for God. If we struggle with loving people, we really have to examine our hearts.

How better to genuinely love someone than to help them on their journey to know Christ...to disciple them. Jesus ministered to the masses of people, but He devoted most of His time to the few. We are called to do the same. If you are a Christ follower, invest your time in others who are desperately needing to be ministered to and to grow in Christ, and, while doing that, teach them to do the same with others.
